Live-Action Role-Play (LARP) is defined as many things by many people. Some consider it a sport, a hobby or a type of game; others still consider it an art form. A simple definition might suggest that it is whenever a person, or persons, take on a role and physically act out that role. The role can vary from the most imaginative- as when a person takes on special abilities or skills, to the most mundane- like when a person role-plays themselves in an altered environment such as in a post-apocalyptic Earth.

There are many forms of LARP and many different groups that play them. One of the most common is called "high fantasy" LARP. It is probably the most well known having appeared in popular media like the 2008 movie Rolemodels or on Tosh.0's web redemption of The Lightning Bolt LARPer.
